Mountain Forest in Tsuyama City, Okayama Prefecture
Located in a certain area of Okayama Prefecture, this property boasts abundant water resources, yet it is not in a heavy snowfall area, offering a comfortable climate throughout the year.
With a land area of 373 tsubo (about 1,233 square meters or 0.30 acres), it may seem like a small and somewhat expensive mountain property, but it has a large usable area and offers high-quality land with both a pond and access to a clear stream.
As someone who lives in the mountains, I feel each time I visit that this is a ‘great piece of land.’
The maintenance, such as mowing, is minimal.

The images show the road leading to the property.
You follow a path through a village, continuing deeper and deeper into the area.
(The fallen leaves seen are seasonal, but they also indicate that no vehicles have passed through.)
*
The forest at the end of the path is this property.
In fact, this land is located at the foot of an old castle site. It might be a power spot.
This land used to be terraced rice fields, but it was later reforested, and now cedar, cypress, and natural trees grow here.
The signal reception is excellent on the property (SoftBank).

This is the entrance to the property from the road.
Currently, there is a slight step down, but if you dig out some soil with a shovel, you can drive into the property.
In the past, it was likely accessed by small trucks or tractors from here.

The first tier after entering the property from the road is open and spacious, with no trees.
It faces east, so the morning sunlight comes in beautifully.
The view to the east is also impressive, with a traditional mountain village landscape stretching out.
Across the road is another person's terraced rice fields, but they are not currently in use.
Most of the surrounding area is unused, so it’s rare to see people passing by.
When I investigated the neighboring landowners, I found that many properties had not been inherited, so it’s safe to say you can enjoy peace and quiet here.

This is the view looking up at the highest point of the property from the road.
This is what the top of the property looks like.
Here’s the middle area of the property.
It’s a mixture of cypress, cedar, and natural trees.
Since this land used to be rice fields, it originally received plenty of sunlight.
If you want even more sunlight, you’ll need to cut down some cypress and cedar trees.

The lowest part of the property faces a pond. The pond itself is not part of the land, but like the surrounding area, it has not been inherited for nearly 100 years and has been left untouched.
(This was taken in early December. Fallen leaves are floating on the surface due to the season.)
The water is so clean that you can see many creatures such as char and Takahaya fish.
In the summer, it would be great for water play, almost like having your own private pool.
A portion of the land along the pond is wetland, where you can harvest wetland-specific plants like watercress and seri (Japanese parsley).
This is a view of the watercress growing in the wetland.

This is the stream flowing into the pond.
The water from this stream is used as household water by several villages downstream.
Therefore, the water flows steadily year-round.
Since the water is shared, it’s important to be mindful of water quality and avoid contamination.

I tried fishing with a handmade hook.
It wasn’t a char, but I caught a fairly large Takahaya.
In the lower stream, they are often considered minor fish, but in clean upstream waters, Takahaya tastes quite good.
I found what I believe to be udona (a type of wild edible plant) growing on the property.
In this region, it is eaten as a mountain vegetable.
Here are some winter strawberries growing on the property.
There are many tea trees growing on the property, perfect for homemade tea.

Here is a keyaki (zelkova) tree, likely around 50 years old.

Additional information:
I made some adjustments to make it easier to drive into the entrance of the property.
While it may be hard to see in the images, the access has improved.
I also took more pictures of the pond because it was so beautiful.
The pond is constantly replenished with clean mountain water, making it so clear you can see the bottom.
Beyond the pond is someone else's forest.
Living with access to a pond like this would be a dream come true.
There are endless possibilities.
